Job Description:

The Engineer supports the Power Plant Engineering Team within Technical Operations that specializes in maintaining and enhancing the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the fleet by evaluating manufacturer and regulatory documentation, developing and substantiating repairs and modifications, and resolving in-service technical issues. This role collaborates with various departments to problem solve and drive improvements, ensure regulatory compliance and provide long-term solutions. The Engineer is a detail-oriented thinker and skilled communicator, who is ready to drive the future of Southwest's Technical Operations.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and process manufacturer's service documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc.), regulatory requirements (Airworthiness Directives, Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Code of Federal Regulations, etc.)

Develop and substantiate in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into the SWA maintenance program

Develop and substantiate reliability improvements through research, root-cause analysis, and implementation through corrective action plans

Collaborate with other departments such as Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Production and other Stakeholders for assigned projects to develop project implementation plans

Troubleshoot and resolve in-service issues

Perform activities related to various types of cost/benefit analysis

Develop Engineering documentation to support resolution of in-service issues

Participate in and coordinate activities related to OEM, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder, and PMA products

May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of FAR's with a strong emphasis on Part 25 requirements and Part 121 operations

Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

Knowledge of technical data and mechanical operations

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various airline support services

Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating technical data in preparation for written response to SWA Leadership or regulatory authorities

Skilled in common business computer applications

Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

Skilled in communicating effectively inside and outside the engineering organization

Ability to seek opportunities and assignments which stimulate thought and provide challenges to develop and grow professionally

Ability to work under tight time constraints to accomplish assignments and projects

Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

Preferred: Experience in Maintenix, Quickbase, Alteryx, Tableau and Microsoft Office

Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:

Airline/OEM/MRO engineering

Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities

Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $$91,250.00 per year to $101,400.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
