Job Summary

This position is responsible for the electrical maintenance and service work in the Utilities Department.

Major Duties

Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.

Tests locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contactors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.

Maintain a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepare reports and maintain records.

Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, and heating, as assigned.

Performs electrical maintenance and service work.

Installs or repairs SCADA fixtures, power outlets, and switches.

Maintains and repairs air conditioning unit.

Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of modern SCADA procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.

Knowledge of national electrical codes.

Knowledge of installation of emergency backup generators.

Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade.

Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work.

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

Ability to work from drawings and specifications.

Ability to perform strenuous and routine work. Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited institution.

At least five (5) years of electrical work experience.

Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License.

Valid Texas Driver's License.

Valid Texas Driver's License*

*If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.

Complexity/Scope of Work

The work consists of related electrical maintenance and repair duties. Electrical hazards contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems in county facilities. Success in this position ensures safe and well-maintained electrical systems.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.

Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

Operating machinery and/or power tools.

Working in low temperatures

Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
