immediately The job of Electrician primarily maintains, repairs, and installs electrical systems, services, and equipment for the District. In addition, he or she provides input when needed on electrical projects. The priority of the Electrician is to provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in District facilities. The Electrician directly reports to the Director of Operations.

Minimum Salary: Starting at $31.59 per hour

12 Month position

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Must be a certified electrician by an accredited program

At least five years of experience as a certified electrician

Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The following identifies the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for the Director (this is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties).

Skilled in the use of power and specialty tools for measuring, controlling, and diagnosing building power, security, fire alarm, technology, and audio/video systems

Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, written reference materials, specifications, and proposals

Knowledge of electrical wiring schemes

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems in various electrical fields, to include fire alarm, voice/data cabling, security cabling, low voltage and line voltage controls (120/208 volt, 277/480 volt building)

Ability to solve mathematical equations applicable to electrical systems

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Knowledge of electrical codes and standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the assignment and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

Installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of electrical systems following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints

Estimates costs (i.e. time, labor, materials, equipment, services for electrical projects) for projects and electrical services and data cabling

Installs and repairs control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit breaker panels, etc.

Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints

Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment

Tests continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety components. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.

Coordinates capital projects with ComEd and J.U.L.I.E.

Utilizes the maintenance work order system for the purpose of prioritizing, scheduling, and documenting work activities

Recommends electrical needs of appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc.

Selects material and hardware, makes time and material estimates, and manages inventory

Works with Director of Operations and the Director of Technology in order to complete special projects

Conducts frequent inspections of buildings and equipment and detects and completes needed repairs

Assesses work orders and strives for timely completion of outstanding work orders

Responds to emergency calls as needed

Advises Director of Operations of major electrical deficiencies and recommends necessary repairs

Identifies and completes electrical preventative maintenance items throughout the school year as approved by the Director of Operations

Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, lock out/tag out, etc.

Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to the Director of Operations immediately

Responsible for cabling and termination of Cat5e, Cat6, and various other wiring disciplines

The position includes the testing and troubleshooting of wiring problems

Labeling patch panel and data drops for new and existing data installs

Termination and testing of new communications cabling

Testing and troubleshooting of communications cable (cat5e, cat6)

Attaching Access Points to building, light poles, ceilings, walls, etc.

Installs projector mounts and affixes projectors

Familiarity with HDMI, VGA, USB, and Fiber Cabling technologies

Mounting of interactive boards, digital displays and other audio video equipment

Diagramming the cable runs in the buildings

Communicate with the Director of Operations for daily events

Maintains all facilities at a high level of professional standard

Follows up on assigned work orders

Assists in the control of expenses, maintaining budgets, and keeping accurate records

Purchases necessary materials required for completion of work orders

Responds to emergency building issues

Promotes personnel safety, safety procedures, and safe working environment

Physical Requirements:

Individuals appointed to these assignments must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the assignment.

Sensory Requirements:

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and depths. Most tasks require visual perception and differentiation.

Environmental Requirements:

Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions; such as wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, electrical currents, bright or dim lighting, etc.
