Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides oversight and direction to lifeguards
Ensures cleanliness of the pool area by performing maintenance activities and assigning Lifeguards' cleaning activities
Assists the Pool Manager with pool maintenance
Inspects the pool and facility at opening and closing
Provides on-the-job training to new Lifeguards
Completes all paperwork related to the position
Checks pool chemical levels
Assigns Lifeguard positions
Performs Lifeguard duty. Ensures safety of pool patrons; observes pool users, enforces pool rules and regulations, and performs emergency first aid and life-saving techniques
Performs all duties of Lifeguard
Performs other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old
Experience: Six (6) months prior experience as a lifeguard preferred
Licenses and/or Certifications Required: Must hold the following Starguard Elite certifications: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/Professional Rescuer, AED and Administering Emergency Oxygen. A current American Starguard Elite Lifeguard Certification is required. Candidates must know CPR/PR with AED, O2A and First Aid Certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to physically perform various rescue techniques and life-saving procedures
Ability to effectively convey information to pool patrons
Knowledge of and skill in using chemical supplies to treat swimming pools
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Physical Demands:
Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
Extended periods of time in the pool and pool area with exposure to temperature extremes, varying weather conditions, chemicals, water and other conditions found in the pool area
Equipment Used:
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
