GTI specializes in the design, engineering, and fabrication of custom modular structures, shipping container-based solutions, and ballistic metal fabrication. Serving DOD contractors, military, disaster relief, and commercial markets, all of our containerized and modular solutions are built in-house at our Buffalo, NY facility. Our capabilities include military training enclosures, bathroom/shower units, medical facilities, water treatment systems, electrical/energy storage enclosures, and more.Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to assist in the design and analysis of prefabricated metal enclosures and steel structures. This role involves performing structural calculations, analyzing steel weldments, designing connections, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will be proficient in structural analysis software, FEA simulations, and fabrication drawing reviews.Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
The Structural Engineer will perform structural steel analysis and design to meet gravity, wind, and seismic building code standards.
Utilize RISA 3D structural analysis software for design validation.
Structural Engineers will conduct FEA analysis of weldment structures using SolidWorks Simulation.
Complete connection design calculations for mechanical fasteners, rivets, screws, bolts, and welds.
Design & Manufacturing Support
Structural Engineers will review designs for manufacturability and collaborate with mechanical detailers and drafters.
Produce design calculation packages for customer submission.
Ensure accuracy by reviewing PDFs and fabrication drawings before release.
Collaboration & Communication
Meet with customers regularly to discuss and coordinate design specifications.
Structural Engineers will work closely with GTI engineers and designers to ensure smooth project execution.
Oversee multiple projects and manage priorities efficiently.Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering
Structural Engineers must have 5-10 years of experience in steel structure design
Strong knowledge of mechanical weldments, fastening systems, tolerances, and clearances
Experience with manufacturing and fabrication drawing production
Structural Engineers must have Software proficiency in: RISA 3D, AutoCAD, Adobe, Microsoft Office
Ability to provide a portfolio showcasing steel calculations and analysis
Expertise in building codes: ASCE 7-16, IBC 2018, AISC 360, AISC 341 Seismic Provisions
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skillsPreferred Qualifications
Prior experience in connection design and structural component integration
