Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive and highly organized Onsite Buyer to support our Industrial Division at the project level. This role is responsible for procurement, materials tracking, and expediting to ensure that jobsite operations run smoothly, efficiently, and on schedule. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of industrial construction materials, strong vendor management skills, and a boots-on-the-ground mentality.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Execution: Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, tools, and equipment required for active industrial construction projects in alignment with project specifications and budgets.
Expediting: Track orders through delivery; follow up with vendors and freight carriers to ensure timely arrival and proactively resolve delays.
Jobsite Coordination: Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and field staff to confirm material needs, priorities, and timing to support field operations.
Inventory & Materials Management: Maintain onsite inventory, receive and verify deliveries, and ensure accurate documentation and tagging of materials.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain real-time purchase logs, delivery records, packing slips, and receiving reports. Track status of open orders and report delays or cost changes.
Vendor Relationships: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, fabricators, and service providers to ensure consistent performance and service.
Support Change Orders: Assist project teams with identifying material impacts from scope changes and assist in repricing and procurement as needed.
Compliance: Ensure that all purchasing and material handling activities comply with company policies, jobsite protocols, and safety standards.
Qualifications:
5+ years of procurement or supply chain experience, preferably in industrial or heavy construction environments.
Strong working knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment – especially in piping, steel, and millwright scopes.
Demonstrated experience expediting orders and managing on-site logistics.
Excellent communication and vendor negotiation skills.
Strong organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and procurement software; experience with Viewpoint or similar ERP systems a plus.
Ability to work independently on a jobsite and collaborate cross-functionally with field and project management teams.
Education:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk active construction sites, climb stairs/ladders, and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
Must be comfortable working in a field office or outdoors in varied weather conditions.
