POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for designing and developing intuitive user interfaces and experiences for applications. They will collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and business analysts to ensure user-centered design. Furthermore, they will conduct usability testing, wireframing, and prototyping to refine and enhance designs, ensuring the final product meets user needs and business objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, or related field
4+ years working with user-centered design
Portfolio showcasing strong design and research abilities
Extensive experience in large scale design and implementation projects
Experience with developing inclusive design for all populations by following the guidelines from WCAG
Masters in User Centered Design, or related field (desired)
Experience working with education systems or Department of Education (desired)
CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or equivalent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct user research, usability testing, and stakeholder interviews to assist with design decisions
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for responsive web applications
Collaborate with developers to ensure feasibility and implementation accuracy
Ensure designs meet DOE accessibility, branding, and usability standards (WCAG 2.1+)
SKILLS:
Proficient working with Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Axure, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, usability testing tools, MS Visio/Lucid Chart
Ability to recognize and understand design debt
Ability to clearly communicate user-centered methods and their values
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to present design to stakeholders and implement design feedback
Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams as well as independently
Basic knowledge of the Waterfall development methodology
