Position Title: Tooling Engineer

Summary
The Tooling Engineer will report to the Tooling Manager and will be responsible for the management of new tooling projects, tool repairs, and tool improvements by working closely with the Tool Design Engineers and Tool Shop.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Focus on continuous improvement and sustainability of new and existing tooling, equipment, and processes within the manufacturing team
Evaluate and analyze new part designs to determine tooling and molding feasibility and the most cost-effective method of producing the part and define tooling requirements. Prepare preliminary CAD tooling layouts and assures the optimal return on tooling investment
Maintains internal tooling standards and implements best practices (including designs, components, spare parts, etc.)
Troubleshoots production issues related to tool trails along with the tool design engineers
Participates in design reviews to challenge tooling designs, provide direction related to new launch tooling, and attends onsite/offsite (vendor) sampling meetings
Familiarity/experience with moldflow
Handles texturing layout reviews and quoting
Writes requests for tooling quotes from vendors. Formats quote summaries form multiple vendors for internal review
Ensure that vendors adhere to budget and timing constraint son projects
Fosters relationships with new and existing tool shops for tooling work
Visits machine shops as needed to coordinate the repair and modification of tools
Provides leadership on tooling initiatives
Supports tool shop work as needed with the setup, review, or maintenance of tools
Coordinates sampling, metrology, and necessary modifications of new tools
Other responsibilities prescribed in managements sole discretion
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilties
years of hands-on tooling and tool design experience
3 years CAD Experience (NX strongly preferred)
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred
Logical thinking ability and a strong attention to detail
Proficient verbal and written communication skills along with exceptional organizational skills
Understanding of mold building, raw materials, equipment, and molding techniques
In-depth knowledge of injection molding principles and tooling debugging techniques
Ability to negotiate and understand the technical and financial aspects of each project
Ability to perform mold flow analysis a plus
Motivated to grow and develop skills for advancement
Proficient computer skills (MS Office, IQMS, Outlook)
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Must have flexible working schedule to support operations
Ability to travel locally up to 15% required
