Job Description
DocMe360 is seeking a talented Back-end Java Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will build robust and scalable server-side applications powering secure, high-throughput features for a project at the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Your expertise in Java microservices, API design, and DevSecOps practices will enable you to architect cloud-native services, integrate with a variety of data sources, and ensure high availability, performance, and security. This position may be contract, contract-to-hire, or direct hire.
Responsibilities
Design RESTful and event-driven micro-services using Java 17+, J2EE and Spring Boot
Model and expose FHIR resources
Implement resilience patterns (bulkhead, circuit-breaker, idempotent retries) for nationwide EHR traffic
Integrate with FHIR endpoints
Automate CI/CD pipelines
Define and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
Collaborate in cross-functional teams (product, design, accessibility, security) using SAFe/Agile
Mentor junior engineers, conduct design and code reviews for clean architecture, DDD, and test coverage (> 80% line/branch)

Requirements
8+ years building backend services in Java (J2EE, Spring Boot, Quarkus, or Micronaut)
Hands-on experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, CDA) or large regulated datasets
Expertise with relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases, plus caching (Redis)
Proficiency in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes or OpenShift)
Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS 1.2+, and key management (AWS KMS or HSM)
U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for VA background investigation; ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust (Tier 2 MBI) or higher
Preferred
Prior work on VistA, Cerner, or other EHR platforms, or experience modernizing MUMPS-based systems to Java
Experience with VA.gov platform tooling, VA Technical Reference Model (TRM) approvals, and Section 508 remediation
