About First3Years
First3Years supports the early relational and mental health of infants and toddlers across Texas. We work hand-in-hand with caregivers, parents, and professionals to build strong early childhood systems, provide professional education, and champion best practices.
In the first three years of life, a childs brain develops at an extraordinary paceshaped by everyday interactions with trusted adults. These early experiences influence a childs lifelong ability to learn, connect, and thrive. First3Years is the only statewide organization dedicated to improving the quality of care for infants and toddlers through training, family support, and systems-level change.
Our programs include professional development for early childhood providers, resources and education for parents and caregivers, and initiatives that support infants and toddlers in the child welfare system.
Board Member Qualifications
We are seeking an experienced, passionate individual to help guide and grow our mission as a member of our Board of Directors.
Ideal candidates will have:
A willingness to advocate, fundraise, and network on behalf of the organization
A passion for improving outcomes for children ages 03 and their families
The ability to share insights and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Experience in one or more of the following areas (preferred): Finance, HR, Healthcare, IT, or Strategic Leadership
Board Member Responsibilities
Strategic Planning: Collaborate on setting and evaluating organizational goals and direction
Policy Oversight: Ensure our mission and programs remain aligned and impactful
Financial Stewardship: Approve budgets and monitor resources for responsible use
Leadership Continuity: Support recruitment and development of strong Board and staff leadership
Fundraising: Serve as an ambassador and actively contribute to fundraising efforts
Expectations
Time Commitment: Attend at least 75% of 46 annual Board meetings and serve on one committee. Estimated time: 24 hours/month.
Annual Contribution: Make a personally meaningful gift (give/get), which may include personal donations, corporate sponsorships, or fundraising efforts.
Community Engagement: Leverage your network to raise awareness and steward relationships.
Board Composition
320 members, typically around 10 active at a time
Officer roles include President, Treasurer, and Secretary
Board terms last two years
