SUMMARY: BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB: Incumbents perform journey level maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility.
Depending on assigned area of responsibility, typical duties may include troubleshooting problems; providing customer service; operating and maintaining a wide variety of tools and equipment; and, compiling data and preparing logs; participating in the design of maintenance and operations systems; programming irrigation systems; and/or, performing other related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs manual labor, journey level maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility.
Performs a variety of concrete and/or asphalt maintenance and repair activities.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Performs various ground maintenance work including mowing/edging lawns, watering, weeding, and pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges; maintains and modifies existing irrigation systems.
Applies pesticides and herbicides for the control of pests and plant diseases.
Installs, replaces, and maintains a variety of fixtures, systems, and/or small structures, which may include changing and putting up lights; repairing plumbing fixtures; ensuring playground equipment meets safety guidelines; sanding benches and tables; repairing holes in walls; and other related items.
Participates in the design of maintenance and operations systems; programming irrigation systems; and/or performing other related activities.
Cleans equipment and debris; loads and unloads trucks; sets up traffic cones and barricades.
Monitors and maintains inventory and supplies.
Applies inventory maintenance principles when maintaining assigned tools and equipment.
Follows and provides direction to meet standards, attention to detail in assignments, prioritizing and organizing workload.
Complies with federal, state and local laws, codes regulations (based on assignment). Demonstratives positive internal and external customer service.
Maintains an effective working relationship with City staff and the public.
Assists in setting up facilities for meetings and/or events.
Operates a variety of motorized vehicles and related equipment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS Formal Education/ Knowledge Work requires knowledge of applicable vehicle and equipment operation standards, safety principles/practices, and occupational hazards.
High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Experience Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in area of responsibility.
Certifications and Other Requirements Valid Driver's License.
Licenses contingent upon assignment: Pesticide Applicator, Commercial Driver License (CDL), Backflow Prevention Specialist Certification or other license(s) as needed.
Reading Work requires the ability to read and comprehend reference books, manuals and related materials.
Math Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations.
Writing Work requires the ability to clearly construct written communication and email correspondence.
Managerial Job/position has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
Policy/Decision Making Moderate - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.
There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few easily identifiable choices.
Work involving discretion is typically reviewed before finalized.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: Various equipment, including but not limited to: Engine diagnostic, welder, cutting torches, jack stands, hydraulic lifts, tire mounting and balancing, bench mounting devices, grinder, battery tester, compressor, chain saw and other various hand equipment/power tools.
Computer Equipment and Software: Various computer equipment and software, including but not limited to: Telephone, desktop computer, laptop computer, tablets, printers, various Microsoft Office Products, payroll system, departmental software.
