Job Summary:
The SPD Technician is responsible for processing items using sterilization or high level disinfectant, the handling and care of instruments and proper packaging and preparation of applicable supplies for sterilization. The Sterile Processing Tech performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.
Licensure and Certification:
Sterile Processing certification required
Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) Certification through IAHCSMM.
OR
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CSPDT) Certification through CBSPD.
Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred
Education:
High school graduate or GED equivalent
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in sterile processing preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of sterilization principles and hospital supplies for distribution
Knowledge of surgical instrument names and use; sterilizer operations; OSHA, JCHO and AAMI standards and recommendations
Customer service skills Effective communication skills
Problem solving skills
Meditech experience a plus
