Vice President, Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

Summary

The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (“FP&A Director”) is responsible for providing the annual operating budget, quarterly financial forecasts, financial insights, and analyses to support decision-marking and to drive performance across the Bank, while ensuring compliance and regulatory requirements align with organizational goals. The role is critical in supporting the Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”) and business units to achieve their financial and strategic goals

Responsibilities

Annual Operating Budget:

Develop a “top-down” financial forecast to be used by ELT and the Board of Directors to use in the Annual Strategic Planning Meeting.

Coordinate with senior leadership detail information necessary to build a “bottoms-up” Annual Operating Budget, after gaining approval from the Board of Directors the results of the Bank’s Strategic Plan.

Utilize ALM tools to develop net interest income and funds transfer pricing (“FTP”) information to be used in the Annual Operating Budget.

Prepare detailed reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (“KPIs”) to be presented to the Board of Directors and ELT.

Work with the Accounting Department to ensure appropriate reporting for budget vs. actual results.

Quarterly Financial Forecasts:

Working directly with the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), prepare a high-level financial forecast to determine if there are any changes to expectations from the Bank’s Annual Operating Budget.

Ensure that updated forecast includes changes in assumptions related to balance sheet growth, changes in overall interest rates, and changes in assumptions for noninterest income or noninterest expense.

Capital Adequacy:

Monitor the bank's capital position and capital adequacy ratios, assessing capital needs and developing strategies to optimize capital allocation and efficiency.

Other Items:

Deliver timely and accurate financial reports and dashboards, including variance analysis, KPI tracking, and profitability analysis across business lines.

Partner with senior executives and department heads to analyze financial performance and provide strategic recommendations.

Develop financial models to evaluate new business opportunities, pricing strategies, product lines, and cost reduction initiatives.

Support the Asset/Liability Committee (ALCO) and balance sheet management by providing data-driven insights.

Ensure accurate and efficient preparation of regulatory financial forecasts and stress testing.

Lead the implementation and maintenance of financial planning systems and reporting tools.

Build and manage a high-performing FP&A team, providing mentorship and career development.

Coordinate with accounting, treasury, risk management, and compliance to ensure alignment and data integrity.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking regulations, economic trends, and industry benchmarks.

Prepare board-level presentations and strategic materials to communicate financial insights and outlook.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CPA/CFA preferred.

Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the banking or financial services industry.

Strong understanding of banking operations, regulatory environment, capital management, and interest rate risk.

Advanced financial modeling and forecasting skills; proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting systems (e.g., Adaptive Insights, TM1, Hyperion, etc.).

Experience working with FDIC-insured institutions or in a highly regulated financial environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Strategic thinker with a hands-on, analytical approach and strong attention to detail.

Experience in the management of complex models.

Able to be a strategic thinker regarding how to effectively manage such risks and to assist the Company in advancing its business strategies.

Thorough knowledge of banking regulations related to liquidity and capital management, including Basel III requirements and regulatory stress testing.

Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, with strong quantitative and analytical skills.

Experience with ALM software and financial systems, with the ability to leverage technology to enhance risk management capabilities.

Able to problem solve at both a strategic and functional level.

Strong organizational time management skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to quickly grasp concepts and processes with limited guidance from management.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must be able to work in a team environment with the ability to interact well, and in a positive manner, with co-workers and management.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer

Office Requirements: This role is required to be in the Denver, CO or Midvale, UT office 3-4 days per week
