Furnace Operator / Heat Treat Operator

Job Description

SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, heat treats parts to specifications outlined in planner documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Determines heat treating requirements called Out in planning documents including material to be heat treated, size, process to be applied such as tempering, stress relieving, annealing, homogenizing, and quenching.

Sets temperature controls and adjusts valves on furnaces and gas generator to produce proper gas/air mixtures to meet hardening or other characteristics called out in planning documents.

Observes temperature and other control gauges to confirm that furnace temperature and adjustments are maintained within specifications and keeps accurate and detailed records regarding time, temperature, dew points, atmosphere, quenching method, hardness test results, or other required data.

Monitors process to correct for any temperature fluctuations, heating level, atmospheric failures, or other irregularities which may have an adverse impact on process control.

Additional duties assigned as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications and follow verbal instructions in English;

Must be able to understand the terminology and concepts of practical shop metallurgy.

Must be able to maintain detail records and prepare reports.

3 or more years in heat treating and material processes preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Works in a factory environment and is exposed to dirt, a very high heat environment, grit, sparks, noise, fumes, and dust. Exposed to hazards related to working with high temperature furnaces and an atmospheric environment.

Duties and responsibilities performed normally do require special physical requirements including sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of hands, and occasional lifting of material up to 75 pounds.Company Description
