JOB OVERVIEW:
With minimal supervision, perform a wide variety of tests, laboratory work and preparation for testing. Testing includes, but is not limited to, hazardous operations, ballistic, pyrotechnic, DOT, ordnance, propellant, explosives and insensitive munitions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Set up and execute ballistics tests on rocket motors and shoulder fired weapon systems following established written procedures
• Analyze testing hazards, develop processes and tooling, and release written instructions for testing
• Set up instrumentation equipment (computers, amplifiers, signal conditioner, Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems, etc.) to conduct tests and record data.
• Conduct calibration of test equipment (such as pressure transducers, load cells, strain gauges, accelerometers)
• Operate high speed digital video cameras.
• Soldering, electronic wiring, adhesive bonding, mechanical assembly, and general R&D laboratory skills
• Understand, interpret, and implement technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
• Clean-up after testing and check for damage to equipment; make repairs.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Associate degree in a technical field or High School or general education diploma (GED) with hands-on work experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Physics field
• Test Technician III – 4-6 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Experience in internal ballistic testing of rocket motors, preferred.
• Experience live firing weapon systems including external and terminal ballistics, preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of Data Acquisition Software: HBM Genesis Perception and/or LabVIEW, preferred.
• Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations.
