The Site Services Technician (SST) is responsible for physical installation and de-installation of IT equipment, network cabling and power whips in the data hall, remote hands support and escorting of non-badged visitors that have a valid business need to access the data hall.

Perform power cycles, physical equipment, and IT cabling inspections

Receive, review, and install IT hardware components (server, device, or network) as directed

Upgrade or replace failed components as directed

Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot IT cabling (single and multi-mode fiber, co-axe, copper, Cat5, Cat6, etc.)

Properly label, comb, and bundle IT cables in accordance with T5FM and customer standards

Good understanding of the installation practices for rack mountable IT equipment within a data center environment (i.e., Cisco, HP, and Dell)

Remove and de-commission IT hardware as directed

Handle storage media

Troubleshoot issues by providing first-hand observation of IT hardware components to customer IT team

Receive, respond, and resolve Break / Fix (incident) engagements within established timeframes or escalate promptly if they cannot be resolved within that period

Receive, assess, and complete IT equipment & infrastructure installation, relocation and decommission requests (change) within established timeframes and to applicable internal, manufacture, and/or industry standards

Provide smart hands problem solving support upon request. (Server reboots, OS updates/rebuilds, backups, visual inspections, etc.)

Receive, assess, and complete patching / de-patching requests (both copper and fiber) within established SLA timeframes and to applicable internal, manufacture, and/or industry, standards

Carry out daily checks of the data halls, keeping records of your findings

Ensure that all records are updated in applicable tools and systems following any changes made

Receive and track inventory for maintenance purposes

Escort and monitor outside contractors, vendors, and third-party engineers; ensure they are abiding by facility work rules

Follow T5 data center and customer corporate policies and procedures

Adhere to all safety laws

Complete other such duties consistent with your role as you may be assigned by T5FM or customer managementQualifications

Education or Equivalent Experience

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited college or university in a major relevant field of study or equivalent 3-5+ years’ experience in IT, required

Extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure, technologies, and data hall management

2+ years’ experience with data center IT hardware, infrastructure, and cabling

Experienced in the use of Fluke handheld Network Analyzers and Data Cable Testers (i.e., DXT1800)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required for interacting with internal employees and leaders, and external contractors and customers

Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills required for understanding and evaluating complex problems, including analyzing a problem, identifying solutions, and selecting the best solution

Financial acumen including the ability to create and understand budgets, financial analysis, and invoicing

Able to prioritize work based on business and customer demands

Able to work within all levels of the organization

Able to participate and engage in senior management discussions and conversations pertinent to facility operations

Able to articulate concepts and ideas to a non-technical audience

Able to lead and contribute to customer-requested business reviews and audits

Able to understand and train others on IT hardware configuration, power distribution, and network cabling, as well as other technical aspects of facilities management

Able to read and understand complex drawings, systems and other documentation
