We currently have an opportunity for an Extrusion Engineer with Nylon/Blown Film Extrusion experience located at our facility in Richmond, VA at the Bellwood Plant.

Responsibilities

Your Role:

The role of an Extrusion Engineer focuses on optimizing the production of Nylon blown film extruded products, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective manufacturing processes.

The key responsibilities involve:

Process Development and Implementation: Designing, evaluating, and implementing innovative extrusion processes that improve the overall production flow for nylon-based products.

Process Control: Developing and maintaining control over manufacturing processes to ensure product consistency, quality, and adherence to industry standards.

Technical Support: Providing technical guidance and problem-solving for materials, operational procedures, and equipment, supporting both new and existing production systems.

Collaboration: Working cross-functionally with departments such as R&D, production, and management, as well as external partners like equipment suppliers and contractors to ensure smooth production operations.

Optimization and Efficiency: Identifying areas for process improvement, reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and ensuring product quality is maintained.

This position requires a solid understanding of extrusion technology, material science, and manufacturing processes, as well as effective communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse teams. It is a dynamic role that blends technical expertise with hands-on problem solving and management.

Provide safety assessments with solutions and recommendations for equipment and processes.

Evaluate and make recommendations of equipment and processes to ensure compliance with quality standards, increase productivity and reduce staffing through automation.

Provide “Hands on” technical problem-solving skills and direction to drive continuous improvement.

Insure process stability/capability and drive process improvement through DOE, SOC, and standard work adherence.

Prioritize and implement improvement initiatives in productivity, safety, quality, and cost.

Confer with vendors and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.

Interact closely with the Production and Maintenance groups to assist in implementation and scale up of new processes and improvement initiatives.

Provide analytical problem-solving skills, teamwork, communications, organization/prioritization, time management, initiative, innovation, and attention to detail.

Work directly with corporate OPEX team and the Sales/Marketing group.

Qualifications

We need you to have:

5 - 10 years of practical work experience in Nylon film, blown film extrusion or film converting.

B.S.degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or other applicable education.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (Root Cause analysis techniques required).

Working knowledge of MS Office, CAD software, SAP.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.

Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.

Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills and high attention to detail.

Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.

Icing on the cake:

Management experience and/or desire to lead team.

MBA or other advanced degree.

Proficient in SAP.

Experience in packaging printing, packaging, or slitting.

Continuous Improvement experience.

Experience training employees at all levels.
