Description
Network Technician
Provides onsite support to ensure the integrity, stability, and efficiency of IS services hosted in our IDF and MDF spaces. The individual technician\'s functions will include installing and replacing rack level power resiliency hardware (UPS/ATS/PDU), deploying new equipment, decommission obsolete gear, and low voltage patch cable clean up. This role will be providing onsite support for IT support requests within the Site Engineering and Operations service delivery model.
Required Skills:
• Experience working in IT Data Centers, IDF’s, and MDF’s
• Experience with rack level UPS units (installation, support, and configuration) (Primarily APC)
• Experience with rack level Automatic transfer switches (ATS) and Power distribution units (PDU)
• Experience with Data Center management tools (DCIM) and data entry
• Experience working with Network access layer hardware (Switches)
• Experience work with Servers
Job Duties/responsibilities:
• Responsible for IDF cleanup (rack and equipment), cable management
• Check cable issues related to end user PC data sockets, Wireless Access Points, CCTV cameras.
• Installation, terminating, splicing, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of voice, data, and fiber optic.
• Install, terminate, test, label & document horizontal, backbone & other cables.
• Organizing for pre-termination, form dress cables, determine length, label cables.
• Termination for patch panels.
• Termination for CAT6, CAT5 and fiber outlets.
• Knowledge of using industry standard test equipment.
• Handling retrofits works - remove unused cables.
• Responsible for UPS battery replacement, Faulty UPS replacement.
• Dressing & routing cable into technical rooms, modular furniture & other work area outlets.
• Building technical & equipment rooms works.
• Testing, troubleshooting, & document test results for cabling.
• Possess working knowledge of cabling standards, shop drawings, schematic diagrams, matrixes and labelling schemes applications.
• Understands, commits the environmental, health & safety policies.
• Handling the required site surveys.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies & applicable laws.
Scope of Work:
1. IDF remediation and cleanup:
a. Physically replace or remediate all failed UPS and UPS batteries
b. Verify and update device label
c. Add any UPS/ATS/PDU that is not monitored to the Network and DCIM
d. Clean up and address any physical cable plant hazards.
e. Remove any replaced or failed UPS and UPS batteries to a designated area to be picked up by a vendor provided by PSJH.
f. Remove or remediate all combustibles and trash found during the audit to create a clean and safe IDF and place them in a designated area for disposal by PSJH.
g. This task will comprise sixty percent (60%) of work.
2. IT Operational Support:
a. Provide testing, support and remediation for failure troubleshooting (Copper/Fiber layer 2) (UPS, ATS, PDU)
b. Provide support for physical hardware and parts replacement.
c. Complete Power Systems Health Check
i. Verify and document that network cables are connected to all UPSs, Rack PDUs, and ATSs. Any that do not have network cable connected need to be patched and added to the network, PSJH will provide a resource to provide support.
ii. Verify that network connected systems are being monitored in PSJH managed tool.
iii. Vendor will be provided with a PSJH point of contact to work with regarding the status of devices in the monitoring tools. Devices not found in the tools should be flagged for remediation.
iv. Document any currently active error lights or messages for follow-up remediation.
d. This task will comprise five percent (5%) of work
3. IT Hardware Deployment / Decommission:
a. Physically install and cable new hardware deployments (Server/SAN/Network)
b. Uninstall hardware and cabling from retired/decommissioned systems.
c. Provide onsite support to facilitate drive destruction and e-waste services.
4. Power Hardware lifecycle:
a. Physical installation and removal of UPS/ATS/PDU devices, as part of a hardware Lifecyle program. (PSJH team to provide coordination services)
b. Physical replacement of hot swappable batteries.
c. Remove any replaced or failed UPS and UPS batteries to a designated area to be picked up by a vendor provided by PSJH.
d. This task will comprise thirty percent (30%) of work.
5. Audit / Inventory:
a. Verify or create walking directions to IDF/MDF and upload to site SharePoint
b. Check room temperature for compliance to PSJH Standards.
c. Check security measures for access control
d. Check for combustibles or fire hazards
e. Cable management hazards
f. Inventory tasks:
i. Rack and floor mounted equipment
ii. Network or Telecom
iii. Server and other powered IS equipment
iv. Power delivery equipment (UPS, PDU, ATS)
g. This task will comprise four percent (4%) of work

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
