Job Description
NOTE:This is an Onsite position Position and one must report to the New Albany, OH Location.
Position resides in the PCE Standards organization with primary responsibilities of development and support of IDC related best practices and processes. Perform engineering activities as well as provide technical guidance, engineering expertise and direction to Transmission team members. Develop expertise in communications systems utilized in substation protection and control devices.
Contribute to process and engineering needs for key initiatives such as PCE Standards IDC and Smart CAD design efforts alongside the Design team. Utilize
Guide and assist with development of training materials and programs for knowledge transfer and accelerated learning programs that will assist employees along their career track progression for those involved internal and external teams involved with IDC Smart CAD efforts.
Possess expert knowledge of AEP Design Standards, procurement processes and CAD Utilization Tools.
- Possess leadership skills necessary to lead teams; to ensure activities are conducted in accordance to company policies, standards and regulatory requirements; to appropriately identify emerging issues, inform, resolve and/or delegate as required.
Also leverage experience to begin training to co-lead & support the development of substation network standards as AEP progresses on utilization of IEC61850 with fiber connected substation monitoring and protection devices.
• Interface with AEP Telecommunication and SCADA Engineering group, to support new standards and improve existing standards
that involve Telecommunication equipment as it applies in substation
SCADA & security applications. This includes network, SCADA, Fiber and
wireless applications.
• Interface with the Transmission Telecommunications Substation Network
team to support improvements with PCE Standards and collaborate on
solutions.
• Support Distribution Automation (DA) needs in areas that impact
substation SCADA and communication. Support DA PCE standard
designs.
• Provide fiber solution needs for equipment interface and work with vendors
to support a quality product solution for AEP substation and point-of-delivery
applications.
• Support fiber multiplexor PCE standard applications and provide guidance
to Transmission personnel.
• Support the Data Gateway / RTU standard and provide
improvements when needed.
Engineer (SG6): ($72,380 - $90,475)
Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*.
Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternative is:
a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Engineering Technologist (SG6): ($72,380 - $90,475)
Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology* in a program accredited by ABET**.
*A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.
**ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternative is (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Engineer (SG7): ($85,081 - $106,354)
Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET* .
Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternative is:
(1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
Engineering Technologist (SG7): ($85,081 - $106,354)
Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles; Bachelor's degree in engineering technology* in a program accredited by ABET**.
*A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree: however, engineering degrees will also be considered.
