WHO YOU ARE:

The School Nurse will serve as the primary advocate for the health and well-being of students and staff within the school. Responsibilities include health screening and services, emergency first aid, the care of those who are ill and/or injured while in the school, maintenance of health records, and instruction in sound health practices.

Do you have what it takes?

Education and Experience:

A valid NJDOE School Nurse Certificate #3000 or a valid NJDOE School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate #3010

or

Hold a valid, current New Jersey RN License; if an RN is eligible for an Emergency Certification, the candidate must provide documented proof of enrollment in a qualified program to obtain the required courses necessary for the issuance of a Standard School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate within 3 years from the date of hire.

Hold a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification as issued by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council, or other entities determined by the Department of Health to comply with the American Heart Associations CPR guidelines

THE ROLE:

Conducts appropriate health services as mandated by Board policy and New Jersey School Law

Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care

Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters

Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students in accordance with New Jersey State Law

Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. Administers first-aid in accordance with established first-aid procedure

Visits student homes when necessary and contacts homes of children referred by staff.

Teaches health classes and coordinates with specialty area teachers' appropriate curriculum

Prepares and submits reports to the Principal and the State Board of Health.

Implements policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

Participates in the instructional programs related to health and nutrition upon request of the professional staff.

Participates in committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum

Conducts registration of all new students and determines their eligibility for enrollment in accordance with State health regulations.

Maintains familiarity with current trends and practices in the field of school health and continuously improves professional competence through in-service programs, performance evaluations, and his/her professional improvement plan.

Serves as a resource to the Child Study Team

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal

Salary range: BA $63,414 - $89,264 / MA $64,664 - $90,514

Term of Employment: 10.5 Months
