About the Opportunity
Meadowhawk Biolabs is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Principal Scientist to work within the Discovery In Vivo Oncology Team at our Marlborough, MA location to work with rodent models in a fast-paced team environment. The ideal candidate is creative, hardworking, results focused, self-motivated and has direct prior experience in rodent In Vivo study work execution and study management. Given that we are a newly launched Contract Research Organization (CRO) founded by an experienced team of industry veterans, this ground floor position offers unique opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute meaningfully to the creation and development of our services, expand their knowledge base by participation in multidisciplinary teams, and advance their career in capabilities and responsibilities.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Subject matter expert in all aspects of In-Vivo Oncology studies, develop novel solutions to study specific situations and introduce new technologies to the department.
Initiate the generation of animal models and licensing for cell lines[DP1]
Drawing upon deep technical animal model experience and knowledge, independently develop creative solutions and create new approaches and solve challenging study objectives
Fully independent for all aspects of animal model work standardly encountered and demonstrates ability to provide effective solutions to atypical, infrequent issues
Fully competent in all aspects of data processing and analysis, responsible for teaching and mentoring the development of this skill in more junior staff. Responsible for interpreting and troubleshooting issues associated with increasingly complex and subtle data sets and decision making on corrective actions
Proactively and timely communicate study status and any potential issues to client and meeting client expectations
Identify and lead process improvement opportunities of greater complexity and impact upon staff and operations
Identify, lead and participate in collaborations within and across departments of increasing complexity and potential impact
Lead company regulatory and good science procedure creations and modifications of greater complexity and impact. Instill and adhere to all regulatory and good science practices and procedures as required as well as other company policies, practices and procedures
Advocate and champion of laboratory animal welfare and compliance with Meadowhawk Biolabs’ Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals policies and procedures
Proactively and effectively provide management oversight of broad resource allocation to satisfy daily, mid-term and longer-term objectives
Serve as client interface for programs of greater complexity and/or volume, responsible for proactively communicating all study aspects, including but not limited to study status and any technical/scientific concerns
Train and mentor more junior staff on established procedures and practices. Provide training and mentoring of more junior staff on scientific and career related matters

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated excellence in the use of Microsoft Office applications and comprehensive competencies in the use of scientific software systems, ELN and LIMS such as Study Log
Effective organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills that motivate and lead others to achieve department and company goals and objectives
Thrives working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment and able to cultivate and maintain business partner relationships through earned trust and respect
Ability to abide by established processes and procedures with an attention to detail while recognizing, when appropriate, to create new approaches to flexibly address requirements
Expert knowledge and experience in a broad range of established biological sample extraction methodologies and analyses with the ability to evaluate and deploy novel approaches where appropriate. Demonstrated expertise with methods of lab automation
Independence and complete self-management in all aspects of position requirements. Demonstrates consistent sound judgement, integrity and trust enabling leadership
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or another related scientific field with a minimum of 10 years (BS) or 8 years (MS) directly related industry experience. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered as substitution for the specific requirements outlined above.
· Strong background working with animal models with close adherence to animal welfare policies
· In-depth knowledge of various animal models, cell lines, dose administration and blood collection techniques in rats and mice
· Ability to execute all aspects of In Vivo studies (cell line preparation, inoculation of mice, tumor measurements, sample collection and processing)
