Description

The Danforth Plant Science Center seeks an experienced security professional for the position of Security Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position, based at our main campus in Creve Coeur, Missouri, with regular working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In addition to these hours, the Security Manager must be available on a 24/7 on-call basis to respond to emergencies, critical incidents, or other urgent security concerns that may arise outside of normal business hours. The successful candidate will assume leadership of the department as the current Security Manager prepares to retire in mid-2025, allowing for a thorough and supported transition.

This position reports to the Vice President of Facilities and Special Services. The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Danforth Center's security operations. This includes developing and implementing security policies, managing security personnel, conducting risk assessments, investigating security breaches, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations to protect company assets, employees, and visitors from potential threats.

Responsibilities:

Security personnel management:Hiring, training, and supervising security officers or other security personnel

Developing and enforcing security policies:Creating comprehensive security protocols covering physical access control, daily operations, emergency response, and incident reporting

Risk assessment and mitigation:Identifying potential security vulnerabilities, analyzing risks, and implementing preventative measures

Incident response:Investigating security breaches, coordinating response actions, and documenting incidents.

Surveillance monitoring:Overseeing surveillance systems and other security monitoring technologies

Compliance management:Ensuring adherence to relevant security regulations and industry standards

Liaison with law enforcement:Maintaining relationships with local police agencies and coordinating investigations when necessary

Security awareness training:Educating employees on security procedures and best practices.

Budget management:Overseeing the security department budget

Facility Life Safety contracts: Overseeing and managing building systems repair and maintenance contracts which include but are not limited to all Fire safety, Elevators, and Fire Safety Systems

Key Control: Overseeing all hard key operations

External Contracts: Working with multiple external companies and external employees that have lease agreements to use space in the Center

Events & Tours: Working with the Events, Education and Development departments to coordinate visitor check-in and security operations

Other duties as assigned Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Prior experience of no less than 3 years as a Security Manager with direct experience managing multiple security officers

Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and security industry standards

Familiarity with security systems and technologies

Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise security personnel

Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise messaging

Ability to identify, analyze, and solve security-related problems

Ability to occasionally run and quickly climb/descend stairs in response to emergency conditions

Capacity to remain alert and attentive during long shifts or periods of low activity

Physical capability to patrol facilities on foot, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings and during varying weather conditions

Mental acuity to assess risks, make sound judgments under pressure, and deescalate potentially volatile situations

Compliance with any applicable drug and alcohol testing requirements in accordance with regulatory standards

Qualifications:

Licensed as a Security Officer by the St. Louis County Police Department

Minimum Associates Degree, Bachelor's degree is a plus
