Job Description
The Legal Assistant will support the Employment Law team, primarily working on employment-based immigration matters and litigation matters. Under attorney supervision, the Legal Assistant will serve as the System's primary support resource for intake and review of employment-based immigration matters across all acute care hospitals, ambulatory care sites, post-acute care site, MetroPlus, and Correctional Health Services.
The Legal Assistant will also support litigation functions, including discovery-related matters. The Legal Assistant will be detail-oriented, able to work independently, thrive in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal skills, and diligently follow up on matters to which they are assigned through completion.
General tasks and responsibilities will include:
Developing/implementing and maintaining project trackers to identify key tasks and progress in completing tasks.
Assisting the office with case management, case file maintenance, document management, and discovery, including, but not limited to, preparing notices and correspondence, document collection document management and organization, and document production.
Drafting (under attorney supervision) notices and correspondence.
Coordinating with System facilities and outside counsel concerning petitions and related workflow.
Providing information within the System regarding the processing of employment-based immigration matters.
Conducting research on court decisions and developing case law.
Preparing papers for mailing and service.
Responding to and making employment-based immigration and litigation-related inquiries via telephone and email.
Answering phones and scheduling matters, as assigned.
Additional duties, as assigned, to be performed in-person in an office setting
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree issued after completion of a four-year course in an accredited college or university; and,
(a) Enrollment in an accredited university leading to an L.L.B. or J.D., or a one-year completion of studies in law leading to an L.L.B. or J.D. at an accredited university or law school; or,
(b) Two (2) years of responsible experience in a satisfactory full-time paid position in a legal office or legal division in business, industry, non-profit, governmental activity or military service.
Department Preferences
A Baccalaureate degree issued after completion of a four-year course in an accredited college or university in a related course of study; and At least one year of responsible experience in a satisfactory full-time paid position in a legal office or legal division in business, industry, non-profit, governmental activity or military service; or
An associate's degree issued after completion in an accredited institution of higher education; and a paralegal certificate; or At least three years of responsible experience in a satisfactory full-time paid position in a legal office or legal division in business, industry, non-profit, governmental activity or military service; or
Suitable combination of responsible experience in a satisfactory full-time paid position and sufficient education credentials. \
