Position Summary

Under direct supervision of the College's General Counsel, this position primarily manages a diverse array of legal matters simultaneously and independently, adeptly balancing multiple priorities and communications with colleagues and clients. Candidates with a strong, diverse legal background, including real-world litigation experience, who can demonstrate the ability to handle various projects will be given strong consideration. The Assistant/Associate General Counsel is further expected to oversee legal matters and transactions from inception to conclusion with minimal direction, offering dynamic, discerning solutions to complex legal issues.

Required Qualifications

Assistant General Counsel: Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Law degree from an accredited institution and minimum of three (3) years' experience as a member of a law firm, non-profit, governmental agency, or the equivalent thereof. Licensed member of the State Bar of Georgia.

Associate General Counsel: Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Law degree from an accredited institution and minimum of five (5) years' experience as a member of a law firm, non-profit, governmental agency, or the equivalent thereof. Licensed member of the State Bar of Georgia Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent planning, problem solving, organizational, and critical thinking skills.

Superior oral and written communication skills.

Litigation experience as either first or second chair counsel.

Experience with drafting, reviewing and editing a wide variety and types of contracts (software, licensing, copyright, trademarks, real estate, construction).

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with varying and sometimes conflicting deadlines for completion.

Ability to identify and work on issues and concerns independently in order to proactively address.

Ability to present information and manage questions from a campus community and general public.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Knowledge of computer web - based functions and ability to maintain web pages. Physical Demands

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsiblities

Serves at the direction and under supervision of the College's General Counsel, providing legal advice and services to the Board of Trustees, the President, administration, along with staff and faculty through administrative and academic channels.

Prepare and conduct complex legal research, detailed presentations and training to College departments regarding workplace, academic and student-focused issues consistent with policies promulgated by the College, as well as requirements of state and federal law.

Represents the College during administrative, regulatory and/or judicial proceedings.

Provide legal advice and support on transactional matters, including procurement, real estate, construction, copyright, trademark and other university business and operational matters, as assigned. This includes reviewing, negotiating, drafting, advising, and managing documentation related to these areas. Develop and periodically maintain, review and update policies.

Assist the General Counsel with overall management of the College's compliance initiatives, including working closely with the College's compliance coordinator regarding the College's compliance program.

Assist with the draft, review and revision of contracts to ensure compliance with College policies and practices Work in close cooperation with various College departments, administration and outside vendors to ensure timely review and assessment of contracts.

Providing legal representation and participation of key College committees, working groups, task forces, and strategic projects.

Performing other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
