About the Position

The anticipated salary range upon hire: $84,694 - $123,687

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) is a full spectrum life safety agency protecting about 500 square miles and over one million people who live and work in Maryland's most populous jurisdiction. MCFRS is a combination system (volunteer/career) in the suburban Washington, D.C. area, operating with an annual budget of over $266 million. MCFRS Responds annually to over 120,000 emergency calls for service and is staffed by nearly 2,700 career and volunteer responders.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a highly motivated and goal-oriented Information Technologist to join its dynamic team as the Fire and Rescue Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Manager. This critical position requires a driven individual with a passion for technology and public safety, who will play an integral role in the ongoing management and optimization of the CAD system. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operations of the CAD system, ensuring its seamless integration and functionality across various departments.

What You'll Be Doing

As the CAD Manager, you will collaborate with a variety of teams and departments to ensure that the Fire and Rescue Service's dispatch system operates efficiently and effectively, supporting emergency responders in real-time operations. This role involves managing system upgrades, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing solutions to improve the dispatch process. Support, provision and maintain the CAD System

Administer Fire and Rescue Data within the CAD system

Responsible for quality control, data validation and maintenance of the CAD Response Plans

Coordinate software and hardware change management

Act as the Fire and Rescue liaison on various CAD system related committees both internal and external

Provide end user support

Participate in the Technology Section - Standby (on call) rotation Offsite, weekend or evening hours will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in the information technology field in such areas as programming, systems analysis, and data/telecommunications, depending on the duties of the position.

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university, or certifications in specific programming languages or operating systems may be required, depending on the duties of the position. Programming languages might include Visual C++, Visual J++, C++, C, SQL, PowerBuilder, Oracle Developer 2000, and COBOL.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. For applicants possessing very hard-to-find skills which are a critical need to the department/agency, training and certification may be accepted in lieu of full degree requirements. Physical Ability: Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Knowledge of the architecture and topology of CAD system software, hardware, and networks including LAN's, WAN's and telecommunications systems, their components and associated systems.

Knowledge of the principals, methods and tools for automating, developing, implementing and administering database management systems.

Skill in computer aided dispatch system management.

Skill in project planning, design and acceptance testing.

Skill in complex IT system problem solving.

Ability to organize work and, set priorities and determine resource requirements.

Leave Benefits
