Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son L.P. is looking for a QA/QC Lead. In this role you will be responsible for technical oversight, planning, execution, and documentation of quality control activities related to fire alarm systems. This role ensures compliance with NFPA codes, contract documents, and industry standards across all phases—from design validation and submittals through installation, testing, and commissioning. This position provides QA/QC inspections and assists field teams and serves as the primary liaison with commissioning agents and client representatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement the fire alarm QA/QC plan across all project phases, aligning with project specifications, NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), and AHJ requirements.

Lead the execution of technical inspections and quality audits to verify the correct device placement, mounting height, labeling, proper circuit terminations, grounding, polarity (IDC, NAC, SLC), conformance of wire gauge, conduit fill, raceways, voltage drop limits, etc.

Coordinate the review and approval of submittals, shop drawings, redlines, and as-built documentation.

Perform QA/QC inspections in daily field inspections, reporting, and documentation of device-level compliance.

Lead and witness point-to-point testing, SLC mapping, and input/output functionality checks for elevator recall, HVAC shutdown, Fire pump start, Door release, magnetic locks, suppression activation, etc.

Coordinate logic testing per sequence matrix and verify fire alarm programming (panel uploads, diagnostics, custom logic).

Interface with field superintendents, system programmers, and subcontractors to resolve installation deficiencies.

Collaborate with Commissioning Authority, General Contractor, and Owner’s Rep to schedule and execute final acceptance testing.

Attend QA/QC, commissioning, and safety meetings; provide status updates and resolve escalated issues.

Generate and maintain all QA/QC reports, test sheets, punch lists, and device tracking logs.

Review and compile fire alarm closeout documentation, including as-builts, UL listing sheets, O&M manuals, and final test results.

Ensure traceability of all life safety components (model numbers, serials, batch codes).

Mentor QA/QC technicians and conduct ongoing training on NFPA requirements, inspection techniques, and system troubleshooting.

Track quality KPIs, nonconformance trends, and ensure corrective/preventive actions are executed and logged.

Verify contractor and in-house team adherence to UL, ADA, and local fire code requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Champion a culture of quality and technical excellence within the fire alarm scope.

Fulfill all other duties as assigned and needed between the demand. Qualifications

High school diploma or state-recognized GED, associate or bachelor’s degree, or higher education preferred.

7+ years of experience in the commercial fire and life safety or related industry.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of local and national fire alarm codes (NFPA, IFC, ADA, UL, IBC, IEC, NEC, etc.) and regulations as well as the ability to read and understand drawings and specifications and electrical, network, and control wiring diagrams.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Autodesk Construction Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Procore, Building Connect and Microsoft Project.

Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations.

Strong analytical, critical thinking and mathematical aptitude, with attention to detail.

Good working knowledge of sophisticated fire detection and alarm systems and ability to read and understand blueprints.

Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities under time constraints.

Technical Writing and documentation savvy.

Flexible to be available as needed to travel to client sites.

NICET certified individuals preferred.

Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
