JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Project Engineer - Construction is responsible for planning, managing, and executing all aspects of capital expenditure projects throughout the lifecycle of the project. This position will coordinate between various stakeholders and ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee the field construction of new aggregate plant installations, plant or site improvements, and process improvement projects including but not limited to: Industrial Greenfield and Brownfield Site Development, Plant Expansions and modifications to existing Aggregate Production Plants, Site Design for Offices, Site Entrance, Roadway, Drainage, Rail, Process Water Impoundments, etc.
Assist with monitoring expenditure, track financial progress, and ensure that all costs remain within the allocated budget
Coordinate activities between operations, onsite contractors, and sub-contractors in each phase of the project
Resolve challenges using past experience and offer solutions to keep projects on track
Provide technical supervision and design expertise around preparing plant pad sites including coordinating surveying, Geotech studies, soil stabilization, foundation design, utilities, grading, site elements, and drainage
Provide technical supervision of concrete construction, plant erection, power distribution, dust suppression, automation, and plant commissioning
Implement project safety plans and ensure compliance with MSHA guidelines through use of training, catwalk talks, and communication with Health, Safety and Environmental team members
Prepare cost and material estimates, schedules, work plans, and daily logs
Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement strategies to optimize financial performance
Participate in activities such as punch lists, safety reviews, quality reviews, and documentation preparation when necessary
Organize and participate in various project meetings and conference calls
Provide progress updates and reports to management and the project team including daily reports, weekly progress reports, and monthly project accounting updates
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures, rules, and regulations
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study from an accredited university
At least 8 years of experience in the mining industry or other similar material processing fields required
Project Management training and PMP certification preferred
Experience working in the Aggregates Industry with aggregate site construction and processing equipment (i.e. conveyors, screens, crushers, etc.) preferred
Experience with AggFlow preferred
Experience with concrete testing, soil compaction, and surveying (Total Station, GPS) preferred
Experience with entitlements such as Platting, Zoning, and Municipal Permitting preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Established technical knowledge, encompassing construction and engineering processes, procurement, project controls reporting, and contract management
Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units
Proficiency in budget management, financial forecasting, and resource allocation
Experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and adapt to changing project requirements
Excellent communication and organizational skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Ability to implement innovative and effective management strategies to enhance project and employee performance
Represents the company with a positive attitude internally and externally
Demonstrates consistent ability to be dependable, consistent, diligent, and thorough
Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, MS Project, etc.
Ability to read and interpret construction contracting/bidding documents, materials, and drawings
Knowledge of power transmission and distribution systems
Knowledge of Grading and Drainage Design, SWP3 management, General Civil Site Design, Water and Wastewater Design, Hydrology and Hydraulics Analysis and Design, etc.
Knowledge of Lean principles and methodologies
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record
Ability to travel up to 60% of the time to various field locations with overnight stays as needed
Ability to work outside normal business hours if necessary
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift, push, or pull objects of various dimensions up to 30 lbs. of weight occasionally
Ability to perform 80% sedentary work and tolerate prolonged standing/sitting/walking
Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel
Ability to verbally communicate, hear, and see
