Job Summary
The Survey Instrument Man will play a critical role in supporting the Survey Party Chief in the collection of accurate field data for boundary, topographic, construction, and transportation surveys for the I-95 MM 0-8 Project. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating both GPS and conventional surveying equipment and is eager to work in a team-based environment.
Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and maintain survey equipment, including total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors.
Assist Party Chief in collecting data and performing field surveys for construction projects, planimetric, topographical, boundary, and design surveys.
Follow directions from the Party Chief and maintain clear communication during all field operations.
Assist in the daily submittals of the collection of field data.
Clear vegetation and obstructions to ensure clear lines of sight for instrument use.
Assist in measuring angles, distances, and elevations as directed.
Assist in the daily maintenance of survey equipment and field supplies.
Perform routine equipment checks and minor field calibrations.
Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe worksite.
Work in various terrain and weather conditions, including highways and construction zones.
Ability to retain knowledge of daily routines.
Qualifications
Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors (Carlson and Sokkia experience preferred.).
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and navigate challenging terrain.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a positive attitude.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education Experience Requirements.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in surveying is a plus.
1+ year of experience in land surveying preferred, but not required for motivated entry-level candidates.
Familiarity with CAD or survey data processing software is a plus.
Experience working on DOT, utility, or infrastructure projects is a bonus.
Basic understanding of field notes, control points, and stakeout procedures.
Work Environment Physical Requirements
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work, depending on the project scope, and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
