SMS Staffing Inc is Hiring Immediately for a skilled Materials Handler!

Job Title: Materials Handler (Heavy) I

Job Location: Altavista, VA, U.S.A. 24517

Job Type: Contract (possible extension or convert to hire)

Pay: $16.55 an hour

Shift Structure: ONSITE, 40 hours per week

2nd shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Monday to Friday, Some weekend work required.

The role of the Materials Handler:

Load, unload, and move materials as required, both within the facility and in proximity to it.

Follow work orders and oral instructions to ensure accurate handling of materials.

Utilize hand trucks, electric dollies, wheelbarrows, or other appropriate devices for material transport.

Perform data entry using ORACLE (ADMS) for tracking and documenting material movement.

Measure and weigh materials using weighing scales, rulers, or similar devices to ensure accuracy.

Demonstrate computer skills for data entry and material tracking purposes.

About the Materials Handler: The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

High School graduate or equivalent educational background.

0-2 years of experience in a material handling role.

Forklift certification preferred

Proficiency in using ORACLE (ADMS) for data entry.

Strong computer skills for material tracking and documentation.

Previous experience with shipping (UPS/FedEx) and receiving is a plus.

Ability to operate electric or battery-operated forklifts and heavy machinery equipment.

Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.

Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach within hands and arm’s length, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time

Ability to handle and lift up to 50lbs as needed for specific job functions

Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team

Needs to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
