Job Description
SUMMARY:
Assists the Quality Control Manager with the planning, scheduling, and supervising of the Quality Control Line Inspectors in the Quality Control Department.
Directing QA employees to perform the duties associated with QA activities and document control.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following, but other duties may be assigned as the company's needs dictate.
•
Responsible for supervising Quality Control Line Inspectors, and Quality Assurance unit. Assures attendance, and coverage of all production areas. Administers disciplinary measures when necessary.
•
Review production paperwork, batch records, QC inspection and sanitation reports, by checking and auditing the documents for accuracy and completeness, calculate production yield and ensure compliance with the established specification limits.
•
Ensures that the established QC/QA procedures are followed.
•
Ensures that good documentation practices and good manufacturing practices are followed. Promotes and enforces GMP, GDP, Food Safety, FDA regulations and company policies.
•
Coordinates and expedites rush orders for finished product, raw materials, and packaging materials as needed.
•
Coordinates, reworks and reconditioning activities together with inventory control and production departments and assures that all product assigned is shipped and returned to inventory in a timely manner.
•
Coordinates quarantined product which includes retesting, deviation, moving to NCMR area, hold tags, and other necessary steps.
•
Reviews and signs off micro releases’ labels, boxes, files, etc.
•
Updates categories, organization, item retest and lot status in Oracle.
•
Performs Monthly Internal GMP audits at all company departments, including production, R&D, maintenance etc. and generates monthly GMP reports.

Monitors and drives adherence to organizational KPIs
•
Leads product failure and customer complaint investigations and maintains Customer Complaint and Material Non-Conformance files.
•
Coordinates employees training program and oversees the completeness of employees training records.
•
Oversees the equipment and instruments calibration and preventive maintenance program. Assist in maintaining environmental and pest control programs.
•
Assists in development and updates in the company's Food Safety and Food defense plans, HACCP, process control and monitoring procedures.
•
Assists with FDA, ISO, NSF, Kosher, Halal and other external audits.
•
Stays up to date with current CFR pertaining to food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and drugs.
•
Other tasks and functions as assigned by the QC/QA manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises Quality Control Inspectors. Carries supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work. Assists Quality Control Manager in interviewing, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining Quality Control Inspectors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline as chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, microbiology, food science, etc. from a four-year college or university; and 3-4 years supervisory experience in a quality control role within food, nutraceutical, or pharmaceutical industry. Master’s degree in scientific discipline as chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, microbiology, food science, etc. and 2 years supervisory experience in a quality control role within food, nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry or equivalent combination of education and experience. Should have experience working on the floor of a manufacturing facility.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees in the Quality Control Department.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must be proficient in algebra and acquainted with statistics. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word and Excel Processing software. Knowledge of Oracle is a plus.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions (various production departments), moving mechanical parts (various production equipment), and fumes or airborne particles (herbal powders). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Any of the following certifications are plus: PCQI, HACCP, CAPA.
