Job Summary
The Engineering Intern is a hybrid role that blends responsibilities in both manufacturing engineering and product development engineering, offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in production process optimization while also exploring product design, mechanical systems, and engineering analysis. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to contribute to both operational efficiency and technical development.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in the development, evaluation, and improvement of manufacturing processes for increased efficiency, quality, and safety.
Support mechanical design tasks such as modeling components, preparing technical drawings, and conducting basic engineering analysis using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality assurance, and design engineering to troubleshoot issues and support continuous improvement efforts.
Perform time studies, collect and analyze production data, and recommend process improvements.
Participate in the design, layout, and setup of manufacturing cells or workstations.
Help develop and update documentation such as work instructions, process flow diagrams, and engineering change orders.
Support prototype builds and performs basic testing or evaluation of mechanical components and assemblies.
Engage in lean manufacturing initiatives and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Follow all safety regulations and company policies in handling materials, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
Keep work areas clean and organized.
Participate in training sessions and safety meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Manager or Engineering Lead.

Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Interest in manufacturing systems and mechanical design.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Basic understanding of manufacturing methods, mechanical components, and materials.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement tools is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, hands-on environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem solving.
Basic mathematical skills.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds or more – Intermittently (less than 15%)
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours) – Continuously (over 75%)
Ability to use hands and fingers – Frequently (over 75%)
Good vision and hand eye coordination – Occasionally (15%-45%)

Working Environment
Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with time spent in engineering office areas and on the production floor.
Exposure to moderate noise levels, tools, machinery and equipment.
Potential exposure to chemicals, dust, debris, welding fumes, smoke, or gases depending on the products being handled.
Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, safety shoes, welding helmets, etc.) are required.
The environment is temperature controlled.
Regular interaction with team members and supervisors in a collaborative atmosphere.
