ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Sets the example for others to follow in all areas of the work including safety, company policies, attitude, conduct and dress.

Reports job progress and problems to management regularly, accurately, and objectively.

Understands electrical, architectural, structural, and mechanical plans. Plans well in advance how to avoid space conflicts with the other trades.

Keeps plans and specifications up to date with revisions made on the job.

Provides schedule input for planning and updates. When schedule dates slip or change, provides solutions for recovery to get the work back on schedule without causing project delays.

Confers with Superintendent and Project Manager on questions regarding interpretation of plans, specifications and schedule.

Maintains strong understanding of the electrical code in effect on your job and keep applicable national, state, and municipal code books on the job.

Knows which contractors have responsibility for various parts of the job.

Completes a task analysis for the upcoming one to two weeks and determines the amount of manpower required to complete the tasks.

Knows the approximate estimated time that was budgeted to do each task, and whether it can be done most efficiently with one worker, two, or a larger crew.

Plans and lays out the work so that it will comply with the specifications and codes, can be installed with the least interference to and from other trades, and makes the most efficient and uniform use of manpower, tools, and equipment throughout the job.

Anticipates as far in advance as possible the need to increase or decrease the work force. Advises the Superintendent of tentative schedule of manpower needs and changes in the schedule as promptly as can be determined.

Be sure that workers have all the materials and tools they need to work as productively as possible. Anticipate needs well in advance so there is no loss of productive time waiting for tools, materials, or instructions. Insist that employees report losses or shortages of tools or materials promptly so you can take the necessary corrective action.

Ensures necessary material and equipment needed for the project are ordered timely and available in plenty of time to get delivery to the jobsite in full compliance with schedule requirements.

Assigns each worker to available work which employee can do best work. Attempts to place each worker on a task which will constantly challenge him to improve his skills. Coaches any worker whose skills for doing an assigned task are deficient or rusty. Lays out jobs for employees and makes sure each knows his or her tasks and the most efficient methods for completing them.

Determines and enforces a fair and adequate standard of workmanship and productivity for each employee.

Supervises employees in performance of work, following safety rules, and adhering to company policies and procedures. Coaches and counsels employees as necessary. Recommends disciplinary action when needed.

Ensures employees comply with all the terms of the Employee Handbook, Company Rules and Policy, Safety & Health Guide, starting work on time, remaining productive throughout the day, and not leaving their assigned work areas until quitting time.

Knows and strictly enforces all job and company safety rules, sets a good example of safe practices, promptly corrects any potential hazard that can be corrected by your crew, reports other hazards immediately to those responsible, and warns everyone on your crew of possible causes of accidents. Inattentive, careless or sloppy workers endanger themselves and others and must be warned and corrected.

Escalate questions on project work after doing proper research. If necessary, get further interpretations from the local inspector. If any interpretations by the inspector appear improper or unreasonable, report the problem to the director prior to proceeding with the work.

If anyone, including the construction manager, general superintendent, job inspector, engineer, or architect instructs you to deviate from the plans and specifications you have been given, be sure to get the instructions in writing, signed by the person giving the instructions or his superior.

Understands company policies and carries them out consistently.

Ensures the jobsite is kept clean and safe and enforces good housekeeping.

Ensures there is proper storage available to protect tools from damage and theft; confirms all Foremen and Lead Journeymen ensure that all tools are returned to the places where they are to be stored at the end of each shift. Verifies that any tool or equipment that is defective or hazardous is tagged and removed from service.

Performs other duties as assigned.
