Tool and Die Maker

Column Technical Services is in search of a Tool and Die Maker to lead our Tool Room team, ensuring timely fulfillment of customer orders while upholding safety and quality standards. This role requires significant experience in tool construction and advanced machining techniques, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in estimating and preparing quotes for new tooling and machining projects, including cost and time projections.

Minimize tooling downtime, ensure consistent tool performance, and maintain accountability within the tool room.

Effectively schedule machinists to meet die build deadlines within budget constraints.

Determine optimal process paths and create supporting routings to manufacture tooling according to specifications.

Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient tool room operations.

Job Requirements

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

Ability to multitask in a dynamic shop floor environment.

Proficiency in designing and fabricating work-holding fixtures for fabrication machines.

Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, with the ability to prioritize tasks and team goals in line with broader business objectives.

Experience building and using progressive fabrication and stamping tools such as: blanking dies, piercing dies, forming tools, trimming dies, embossing dies, flanging dies, compound dies, and specialized tools like fourslide stamping dies.

Experience with troubleshooting the dies on stamping runs.

Experience repairing and maintaining tool and die machines as well as treating, jigging and grinding new components.

Experience analyzing and programming CNC machines.

Experience with 3-D modeling.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate degree or Tool and Die Journeyman card, or

5 years hands-on of directly related experience in the field.

Active participation on the shop floor

Requiring strong fabrication skills.

Extensive experience in fabrication is essential.

Preferably a strong Tool and Die Maker with expertise in machine repair.

Proficiency in machining and tool handling is highly desirable.

Used AutoCad in previous positions for tool revisions and working with engineering teams for tool improvements.
