The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool, Patient Care Associates, Perioperative Technicians and Clerical Specialists provide patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcome, serve as patient advocate, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. The perianesthesia areas are located on the fourth floor of Doan and Rhodes Hall, the fourth floor of the Brain and Spine Hospital and the 4th floor of the Ross Hospital.

The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising the other members of the patient care team. They are responsible for assessing, prescribing, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool delivers care within the scope of the nursing process as reflected in ASPAN Standards and Recommended Practices and Perioperative Nursing Service Policies and Procedures. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool prioritizes patient care needs and provides the leadership and development of the patient care team. Nursing care is delivered in a manner that is cost effective without compromising patient care. The staff nurse must be competent in technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to serve the patient population defined by the scope of service. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool plans, designs, implements and evaluates systems to prove the quality of perioperative nursing care for the surgical patient. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool assists the Management Team in the clinical evaluation of professional and paraprofessional perioperative nursing staff. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool participates in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, participates in student teaching activities, upholds Nursing Services philosophy and objectives, contributes to organizational effectiveness, participates in professional nursing organizations and demonstrates professional growth and development. The Perianesthesia RN - Float Pool works a variable schedule and in variable perianesthesia care settings, including (but not limited to) University Hospitals, Brain & Spine Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital and the new Inpatient Tower.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. Current Ohio Licensure as a registered

Nurse.
