Job Description
The Farm Helper position is an integral part of our agricultural operations, primarily focusing on the well-being and care of our livestock and the maintenance of farm facilities.
Essential Job Duties:
Assists with breeding and raising livestock for the sale of meat.
Feeds and waters livestock; and monitors food and water supplies.
Drives trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals and maintain farm and roads.
Examines animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain.
Assists with medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations; or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment.
Mixes feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions.
Inspects, maintains, and repairs equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences.
Lubricates, adjusts, and makes minor repairs to farm equipment, using oilcans, grease guns, and hand tools.
Moves equipment or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or 4 wheel tractors.
Cleans pens and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, and/or pumps.
Marks livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos.
Herds livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures.
Performs feed crop production duties such as tilling, planting, and bailing hay.
Maintains facilities such as fencing, water supplies and outdoor housing and wind shelters.
Sets up and operates farm machinery to bail and haul feed crops.
Education and Experience:
Two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Skills:
Knowledge of animal husbandry and crop cultivation.
Ability to use various farm equipment, including hay rakes, bailers, and sprayers.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license.
