Title: Billing Manager

Supervisor(s): Director Revenue Cycle

Department: Administration

Effective Date: March 15, 2021

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Revenue Cycle, this role is responsible for the coordination and management of the entire billing process, assuring maximum reimbursement for services rendered. The Billing Manager will also work closely with the Director of Revenue to identify areas of process and workflow improvements, as well as analyze and identify trends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management oversite of the billing team.

Monitors timely charge processing, posting of incoming payments and processing of refund requests.

Supervises private pay billing cycles, including patient statements and collection notices.

Assures timely follow up with third party payers regarding any information requests or denials/rejected claims.

Educate staff in all aspects of Billing and Accounts Receivable and be available for patient billing inquiries.

Regularly monitor productivity and accurateness of billing staff.

Assist in the development, maintenance, and enforcement of relevant policies and procedures and encourages process improvement within the department.

Develop training materials and utilize the materials in training and re-train all applicable staff regarding how their work affects reimbursement.

Supervises and monitors sliding fee scale program and its application to ensure all data is received and proper adjustments given.

Collaborate with the Director of Revenue Cycle on process improvements, implementation of policies & procedures and overall enhancement of the revenue cycle.

Review, analysis, and reporting to the Director of Revenue Cycle and Director of Finance of revenue trends, reimbursement issues, etc.

Work closely with the Billing and Coding Auditor to ensure adherence to all appropriate billing principles and procedures.

Other duties as assigned, also, including processing of claims, working denials or assisting with AR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

Ability to work effectively with providers, staff and third-party payers

Ability to manage and supervise subordinates

Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and coordinate work activities

Knowledge and understanding of coding and compliance issues

Ability to work under pressure

Strong communication, writing and organizational skills

Computer skills with Microsoft Windows and Office Professional (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Ability to exercise initiative, problem solving, and decision making

Ability to respect the abilities of others; and impart trust, integrity and solidarity and guide others in a similar vein

Ability to be a team player who values and models working collaboratively

Ability to use good judgment to accomplish goals

Credentials and Experience

Required

Technical certificate in Medical Billing & Coding

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution

At least five years of experience in medical office billing (preferably FQHC billing) and training staff

Special Requirements

Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required. Ability to travel periodically in-state and out-of-state.
