Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Orange, CA for a Design Engineer. The Design Engineer will engage with various tasks including design engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, and product design. Day-to-day responsibilities involve developing and executing design concepts, creating detailed engineering drawings using CAD, and collaborating with the fabrication team to ensure the accurate realization of designs. The role demands a strong attention to detail and the ability to work closely with other engineers, designers, and clients to bring designs from concept to completion.

Responsibilities –

Design Engineering

● Meet with Project Managers, Lead Designer, and Director of Fabrication to go over the scope of the project and download all relevant info, including: Budget, Schedule, Design and/or site constraints, Fabrication methods and materials.

● Develop a deep knowledge-base and research appropriate processes, materials, and hardware to be used in a wide range of projects

● Propose design-minded, engineered solutions to Director of Fabrication and Lead Designer/PM for feedback and approval

● Provide shop drawings and renderings for our shop, vendors, and clients, including: Technical, dimensioned drawings, Site surveys, Material take-offs, Hardware specs, Installation diagrams, Bills of Material

● Develop production files for CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting, etc.

● Experience designing and fabricating with a wide range of materials and methods, including but not limited to woods, metals, resins, and composites is appreciated.

● Advanced Proficiency in creating shop and design drawings, models, and production files using Rhinoceros, Solidworks, or a similar software is required.

● Basic Familiarity with Grasshopper is appreciated, but not required.

● Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is appreciated but not required.

● Basic Familiarity with digital fabrication technology including CNC milling, laser cutting, and 3d printing is required.

● Familiarity with drawing conventions used in the Fabrication and Construction Industries.

Education and Experience -

● Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture, Industrial design, Mechanical or Structural Engineering, Exhibit Design, Theatrical Design or similar is required. Equivalent experience in lieu of a formal degree will be considered.

Salary Range - $70,000.00 - $130,000.00 based on knowledge and experience.
