Started by Stanford/MIT serial entrepreneurs, Ruby Robotics is maximizing patient outcomes with tissue insights at the point of care. Using custom-built hardware and AI, our platform optimizes biopsy and surgical procedure workflow while delivering disease analytics early in the patient’s journey. This facilitates faster, more informed treatment decisions for patients as well as improved staffing and operational workflow for hospitals. ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced mechatronic systems engineer to advance the development of our novel tissue processing and analytics instruments. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing, rapidly iterating, and commercializing complex electromechanical instruments or robots in the medical field. Proficiency programming mechatronic systems in C#/C++/Python is essential, as is know-how in electrical circuitry and mechanical design principles. Knowledge in optics, fluidics, and computer vision is a plus.

Must be open to working on-site at our facility in San Carlos CA.

Key Responsibilities:

Help define the system architecture for Ruby’s automated instruments

Lead rapid prototype iterations from concept stage to subsystem bring-up to fully integrated prototypes to production-ready products

Design and conduct experiments to evaluate and iterate on mechatronic prototypes

Conceive and code algorithms for controlling mechatronic hardware including motors, actuators, pumps, sensors, and cameras

Work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team and company leadership to deliver on key technical milestones

Work with team members to develop and manage system requirements

Assemble, troubleshoot and perform verification & validation on instruments

Support planning and conduct animal and clinical lab trials

Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel through design, transfer, and launch

Co-manage the bill of materials and coordinate with part suppliers and vendors

Create new intellectual property based on prototype iteration and testing

Qualifications:

Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. Masters or PhD preferred.

8+ years’ experience specifying, building, programming, and testing complex electromechanical instrumentation

8+ years’ experience in C#, C++, C, and/or Python programming for mechatronic systems

Developed and successfully commercialized at least one electromechanical product, preferably a FDA or CLIA-regulated device/instrument

Preferred: experience in computer vision using OpenCV or similar libraries

Preferred: experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks

Strong analytical skills and a creative mindset

Works well in a small agile startup team

Ability to work on-site at our San Carlos CA facility
