POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Power Utility Engineer to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In this role, you will be essential in designing and implementing transmission, distribution, and substation projects. JOB FUNCTION:
Lead and manage the design and engineering of transmission, distribution, and substation projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to project budgets, schedules, and quality standards
Provide direct support to electric utility clients on a diverse range of electric utility subjects, including budgeting/capital planning, generation, substation, distribution, metering, GIS/mapping, communications, and SCADA systems.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers, drafters, and designers, ensuring a high-quality and efficient workflow
Collaborate effectively with internal teams (project managers, other engineers, and designers) and external stakeholders (clients, utilities) to ensure project success
Stay current with the latest industry standards, codes, and technologies related to power utility project design and engineering
Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement within the power utility engineering practice
Be adaptable and willing to work outside of standard business hours on occasion
Be able to support system studies and programs and troubleshoot SCADA systems, including communication connections
Knowledge of distribution line design & construction
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the power utilities industry
Substation engineering design preferred
Licensed P.E. is preferred
Proficiency in industry software such as AutoCAD and AcSELerator
Knowledge of substation equipment, protection, and control systems
Knowledge construction practices and relevant industry standards (IEEE, National Electrical Safety Code, etc.)
Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, CYME, WindMil etc.) is a plus
Capable of working in an outdoor work environment and office environment
Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. occasionally with or without accommodation, sometimes over substantial distances
