About the role
As an Applied AI/ML Vice President in our Data and AI team, you will contribute to the firm’s objectives by delivering rapid and scalable solutions that unlock value for Cerberus desks, portfolio companies, or other businesses/investments. You’ll do this by designing, implementing, and Data and AI systems for a broad range of business objectives. You may also participate in due diligence analyses of future investments.

Build and deliver Data and AI projects as an individual contributor and in teams
Delivery focused: Help design solutions using a rigorous hypothesis-based approach, partner with cross-functional teams, and execute development and implementation with a focus on value
Agile and pragmatic: Rapidly and iteratively deliver results in high pressured projects with the skill to pivot quickly as needed relative to business needs and value
Contemporary and innovative approach: Develop novel solutions using modern platforms (e.g., Cloud based platforms like Azure, AWS), languages/technologies (e.g., Python, Spark, SQL), and tools (e.g., Power BI), with an ability to build IP into reusable software
Structured approach: Bring order to disparate requirements with high tolerance for ambiguity, very strong problem solving ability, and excellent stakeholder engagement skills
Synthesize analytical findings for consumption by senior business executives

Requirements:
General
University degree in STEM field or equivalent. PhD preferred.
8+ years of hands-on experience delivering Data and AI solutions in a production environment
Exceptional intellectual curiosity, problem solving, mathematical intuition, and effectiveness in a team.
Ability to communicate ideas and solutions to stakeholders clearly
Programming
Highly proficient with Python, SQL, and Excel
Highly proficient with key Python data science and ML libraries
Able to debug complex errors using standard debugging tools and techniques
Understands basic data structures (e.g., queues, trees, graphs)
Able to perform code optimization, including by means of measuring code complexity for alternative approaches
Writes reusable, general purpose Python libraries which can be reused across projects by the team
Has good intuition for separating interface functions and implementation logic; comments functions appropriately
Writes unit tests, as required
Reviews pull requests; provides feedback and guidance to junior team members for code review
Data
Highly proficient with at least one Relational DB (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Sql Server, etc.)
Proficient with Data Warehousing solutions (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery)
Familiarity with data modeling; can design intermediate data models
Can write and execute complex SQL queries and Python scripts for data transformation
Can fetch data from a variety of sources (e.g., database, API, web scraping)
Cloud
Proficiency with at least one Cloud platform (e.g., Azure) and knowledge of others
Familiarity with Cloud storage (e.g., Blob)
Familiarity with Cloud services (e.g., Azure functions)
BI
Create advanced visualizations, custom coded in BI tools (PowerBI, Looker, Tableau) or Python (e.g., Streamlit)
Highly proficient with producing informative visualizations of data that address business questions
EDA
Develop and apply repeatable frameworks in data wrangling, quality testing, and visualization tooling
Statistics
Highly proficient with probability concepts (e.g., PDF, CDF, likelihood) and distributions (e.g., normal, binomial, categorical)
Highly proficient with statistical inference techniques (e.g., MLE) and interpreting statistical test results
Familiarity with Frequentist and Bayesian techniques, e.g., bootstrapping for error estimation, MCMC for sampling from a Bayesian posterior distribution; Familiarity with Bayesian Hierarchical Modeling techniques
Machine Learning
Proficient with turning business problems into appropriate modeling designs
Highly proficient with machine learning models, techniques (e.g., classic ML, forecasting, NLP, computer vision, mathematical optimization), and performance evaluation
Proficient exploring and applying “new” methods
Highly proficient with building reproducible model training pipelines, including hyperparameter tuning and model logging/tracking
Deployment
Proficiency with building net new code
Proficient with version control (e.g., Git), containers (e.g., Docker), APIs, and orchestration
Proficient with CICD pipelines
Proficient with deploying APIs to serve model results; familiar with standard Python backend web frameworks (e.g., Flask, Django)
Familiarity with making changes to front-end code using common languages (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript + React)
The base salary for this position is expected to be between $175,000.00 and $225,000.00. The base salary offered to the chosen candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by the Company in its sole discretion. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is often a meaningful portion of the compensation package, and a robust benefits package.
