Job Summary
Work under the supervision of the Parks Manager to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in the City’s parks, athletic facilities, medians, rights of ways, and landscape beds and to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and private sectors about special projects, events, and/or maintenance related concerns in the provision of the highest level of service possible to all customers.
Examples of Duties
Work in conjunction with Parks Manager to schedule, coordinate, and perform maintenance on medians, right of ways, landscape beds, athletic facilities, and parks in the City.
Collaborate with staff members in the performance of various project maintenance, including, but not limited to:
Preparation and updating of project schedule via Google Sheets
Preparation and updating of the irrigation schedule and maintenance log via Google Sheets
Maintenance and repair of irrigation systems
Application of pesticides in medians, right of ways, landscape beds, athletic fields, and parks
Tree maintenance such as trimming, removal, egret deterrence, and mulching
Playground and splash park inspections, audits, and repairs
Debris cleanup and emptying of trash receptacles in parks, athletic facilities, and along trail systems
Assist with admin and special events maintenance projects
Operate power tools such as edgers, weed eaters, chain saws, augers, hammer drills, etc.
Operate equipment such as zero turn mowers, utility vehicles, field groomers, and tractors with attachments.
Use Cityworks to maintain all records of maintenance operations.
Read and suggest edits to construction plans in accordance with best maintenance practices.
Prepare for and implement the ordering of materials, equipment, and supplies to complete assigned tasks.
Attend various training classes to obtain information on current products, practices, and trends in the maintenance field.
Oversee service and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events.
May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Ability to work efficiently with coworkers, follow instructions, and adhere to safety policies
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
Ability to proficiently operate a computer using work order management and/or project management systems
Good organizational skills, creativity, initiative, and a desire to learn
Knowledge of parks, athletics, and/or landscape maintenance and operations
Knowledge of operating various types of tractors, mowers, and equipment needed for maintenance operations
Education and Experience
Required:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Completion of an 8 hour TDA approved chemical safety class for application of herbicides/pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator within 6 months of hire, unless currently licensed
Any combination of two relevant certifications/licenses, or ability to obtain within one year of employment, including, but not limited to:
Irrigation (tech) license
Certified Playground Safety Inspector
ISA certification
TDA chemical applicator license
Aquatic Facility Operator/Certified Pool Operator
CDL-APreferred:
Background in open space/green belt maintenance, landscape maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or parks maintenance.
