Job Description

Responsibilities

The VP of Engineering develops, organizes, and directs engineering staff to meet customer and company objectives by integrating customer needs with manufacturable solutions. They report directly to the President.

The VP of Engineering is responsible for the Engineering Department staff in project assignment, task management, and scheduling, while working with the VP of Sales and VP of Operations to ensure customer needs and project deadlines are met.

Lead the team while also managing their own projects, working with customers, designers, and fabricators to transform customer needs into manufacturable solutions.

Participation on the executive leadership team is also required, providing critical input for strategic planning and key decisions.

Sales Support: Provide concept drawings and models for discovery calls with customers.

Pre-engineering for estimating to provide accurate quotes.

Attend tradeshows and visit customers and job sites.

Engineering Management: Plan, organize, and direct the engineering team to meet departmental and company objectives.

Provide departmental and individual team members with KPIs and SMART goals.

Provide structure for growing the engineering team from 4 to 12 members over the next 10 years.

Lead, develop, and train team members.

Conduct daily or weekly team meetings.

Project Management: Lead kickoff calls with customers after receiving project handoff from sales.

Send/receive information and navigate best solutions during projects while meeting timelines for customer and production.

Work with designers/detailers to produce approval drawings for customers, shop drawings for production, and support operations throughout the build.

Engineering for Self-Managed Projects

Phase 1: Model/Approval Drawing.

Phase 2: Model/Approval Drawing.

Check material lists & send to purchasing.

Support purchasing efforts.

Identify new suppliers or materials when needed.

Structural calculations and/or base reactions for customers.

RISA 3D modeling and analysis.

Review models when ready for detailing.

Check drawing packages/CNC & fabrication cut lists/cost lists.

Make videos & release projects to production.

Leadership Participation

Participate as a member of the executive leadership team.

Conduct daily walk-throughs of the shop to understand production processes and perform quality checks.

Develop engineering standards for sales and production that comply with ASME, IBC, OSHA, and ANSI codes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.

Current PE or SE license required.

Deep understanding of 3D modeling, including master models and family tables, using CREO Parametric 3D.

Experience with structural analysis of beams, columns, etc.

Ability to meet customer requirements while designing manufacturable, budget-conscious solutions.

Excellent communication skills across departments.

Creative problem-solver who enjoys handling multiple challenges daily.

Experience designing bulk storage solutions with modularity and manufacturing in mind.

Knowledge of ASME, IBC, ANSI, and OSHA standards.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

10+ years of experience in the Dry Bulk industry or a related field.

5+ years leading design or engineering teams.

Ability to travel up to 1 day per month.

Ability to work 45 hours per week, Monday through Friday (4.5-day work weeks).

Positive, proactive attitude ("Can-Do" mindset).

Schedule Monday to Thursday: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm CST

Friday: 7:00 am - 12:00 pm CST 45 hours weekly on-site.
