At Refined Gardens, we believe luxury landscapes should feel as effortless as they look — but behind the scenes, it takes serious creativity, precision, and the occasional coffee-fueled brainstorm. We specialize in high-end residential design, construction, and maintenance, blending art, architecture, and nature to create unforgettable outdoor spaces. If you love numbers, systems, and occasional laughs about how many plants it takes to make a perfect hedge — you’ll fit right in. Learn more about us at
About the Role:
We’re looking for a sharp, motivated Controller who doesn’t just know their debits from their credits — but also knows how to roll with a fast-growing, creative team. You’ll lead and oversee all financial operations, bringing calm to the chaos and clarity to the spreadsheets, all while helping our business thrive. If you love making things more efficient, spotting the one penny off on a reconciliation, and maybe even enjoying a well-timed office meme — we want to meet you.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all day-to-day accounting functions (AP/AR, payroll, job costing, and bank reconciliations) — cape optional but encouraged
Create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports that even non-finance people can understand. Includes monthly review with leadership. (bonus points if you can explain it with fewer than 10 spreadsheets)
Drive budgeting and forecasting processes across design, construction, and maintenance departments
Help project managers track and crush their financial goals without crushing their souls
Keep us in line with GAAP standards (because it’s more fun to follow the rules when you know you’re winning)
Coordinate with CPA firms for tax planning and filings — so April feels less like a horror movie
Identify ways to improve profitability, streamline operations, and generally make life better for everyone
Implement smarter systems, processes, and technologies (if you can automate tedious tasks, you're basically a hero here)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA is a big plus)
5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience (experience in construction, landscaping, or project-based industries = extra credit)
Fluent in QuickBooks Online, Google sheets, and preferably project management software (LMN experience is golden)
Deep understanding of WIP reporting, job costing, and project-based accounting (if you dream in spreadsheets, even better)
Impeccable attention to detail, integrity, and a good sense of humor about deadlines
Self-starter who can work independently, but knows teamwork makes the dream work
Apple computer knowledge, we nearly run everything on Mac
Why You'll Love Working Here:
Creative, passionate team that actually likes working together
Zero tolerance for egos — just good people doing great work
Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses
Paid time off, holidays, and health benefits.
Frequent landscape puns, occasional taco trucks, and random celebrations just because
How to Apply:
Send your resume and a quick note about why you’d be an awesome fit to. Bonus points if you tell us your favorite plant or flower — we promise we won’t make you water it.
