Position Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct and indirect nursing care to incarcerated individuals in accordance with facility policies and procedures, state laws, and professional nursing standards. The LPN plays a critical role in maintaining the health and well-being of inmates by providing routine and emergency medical care in a secure correctional setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician.

Perform routine assessments, including vital signs, physical exams, and medical screenings.

Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and document appropriately.

Monitor and report changes in patients’ conditions to the RN or provider.

Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records in accordance with facility standards.

Assist with medical emergencies, including triage and first aid.

Participate in intake assessments and health screenings of new inmates.

Ensure proper infection control practices and universal precautions are followed.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, mental health staff, and custody personnel.

Educate inmates on health maintenance and disease prevention.

Comply with all legal, ethical, and facility regulations.

Qualifications:

Licensure: Current and valid LPN license in the state of [State].

Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred; correctional or psychiatric nursing experience is a plus.

Skills:

Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure environments.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in a multidisciplinary team.

Other: Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening; clearance to work in a correctional setting required.

Fast-paced, secure correctional healthcare setting.

Exposure to potentially aggressive individuals and stressful situations.

May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on facility needs.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
