Description

Incumbent serves as Beach Attendant for the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department, responsible for ensuring visitors comply with Park policies and maintain beach and facilities.

Examples of Duties

Monitors activities at assigned beaches and maintains a physically safe environment, providing basic first aid as needed.

Enforces Parks rules and regulations and controls incidents on assigned beaches.

Completes and submits required forms and reports including, but not limited to, incident forms and accident reports.

Maintains cleanliness of assigned areas, including beach, beach shower house, and rest rooms.

Removes trash and debris from beach and parking areas.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.

Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department practices, procedures, rules and regulations.

Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed reports, such as incident forms and accident reports.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, Park patrons, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to State requirements.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written and oral instructions present findings in oral or written form.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.

Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.

Ability to apply knowledge of people and/or locations.

Ability to work weekends and/or evening hours.

Possession of a valid driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.

Supplemental Information

Incumbent's duties require sitting/walking at will, sitting/standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, bending, reaching, close/far vision, color perception, handling/grasping objects, speaking clearly and hearing sounds/communication.

Incumbent performs duties outdoors with frequent exposure to normal hazards associated with working outdoors, such as inclement weather and extreme temperatures, working with or near chemicals, near fumes, odors, dust and dirt, in confined areas, and may be exposed to irate difficult persons. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self or others.

Incumbent works weekends and/or evening hours.
