Job Description:

The Brown Collegiate Scholars Program (BCSP) is a four-year year-round college access program for students living and learning in Providence. The Program seeks to empower academically motivated public school students who live and learn in Providence to explore their interests and strengthen their academic preparation in order to identify, select, afford and attend colleges that align with their aspirations. As a reflection of the University's approach to student-centered learning, focus will be on developing student agency as a means for self-reflection, exploration, and self-determination. Particular attention will be focused on serving students who are the first in their families to go to college and/or who have limited financial resources.

There are 25-30 students in each year's cohort, and these students continue together as a community through the four years of the program. In each of the four summers of the program, BCSP students participate in immersive four-week educational programming on the Brown University campus. Students commute to campus for the first two summers and are residential in the last two summers. These four weeks include English Language Arts (ELA) and Math classes, as well as workshops and activities focused on Social Emotional Learning, Youth Development and College Access.

Reporting to the BCSP Curriculum and Student Support Manager, the Math Instructor works to develop students' academic and interpersonal skills through an Algebra course of study, implemented in accordance with the Brown Collegiate Scholars Program curriculum. The Program Instructor creates a safe and optimal learning environment; addresses specific educational needs of students; documents teaching and student progress, activities and outcomes; and provides feedback to students, parents/guardians and the BCSP Curriculum and Student Support Manager regarding student progress.

This in-person position works Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Brown University campus from June 30th through August 1st.

This is a seasonal/intermittent position that is not benefits-eligible.
