The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an academic Core Residency FM/OB Faculty member to join the Department of Family and Community Medicine. The academic rank and track are commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a full-time, board-certified/eligible family medicine physician with maternity and obstetrics experience to join our GME Program located in Columbus, Ohio. This successful candidate will be a core faculty member in the family medicine residency program, teaching medical students along with family medicine residents. We have two residency program sites with faculty who cover the family medicine run inpatient service at University Hospital East and prenatal and maternity care, including vaginal delivery, at the Wexner Medical Center. Our family medicine practices are part of Comprehensive Primary Care Plus through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid. OSU offers competitive salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications.
The Department of Family Medicine offers patient-centered personalized medical services through The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center at our family medicine centers located throughout Columbus and Franklin County. These centers feature family medicine teams made up of physicians, residents, nurse care coordinators, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dietitians, medical assistants/technicians, and mental health experts working together to ensure that our patients receive excellent personalized healthcare.
Family medicine offers team-based services, including physical examinations, wellness care, pediatric services, care for sports- related injuries, women's healthcare, acute care and chronic disease management, family and marital counseling, psychological services, minor surgery, care coordination, dietitian nutritional services, pharmacist medication review and much more. In addition, as part of one of the nation's top-ranked medical centers, the Department of Family Medicine has access to nationally and internationally recognized specialists and support services.
Requirements
Successful completion from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school
Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in an acceptable specialty area
Completion of FM/Obstetrics fellowship is a plus but not a requirement
Eligible for State of Ohio medical license
Qualify for an academic appointment at the assistant, associate, or full professor level - Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience Experience (or equivalent education): The Core Faculty must have the requisite specialty expertise and documented educational and clinical experience acceptable to the Review Committee, which includes:
History of providing prenatal services, including obstetrical ultrasound in the outpatient setting
Ability to obtain hospital privileges for routine pregnancy care, including vaginal deliveries
Experience in coordinating resident maternity care curriculum
Active clinical participation in Family Medicine; preferable to have educational and clinical experience as a faculty member of a Family Medicine residency program prior to appointment
Devote sufficient time to the educational program to fulfill their supervisory and teaching responsibilities
Demonstrate a strong interest in the education of residents
Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
