Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform substation design tasks, develop design drawings and documents, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks for projects.
Prepare substation related drawings such as one lines, plan views, electrical assemblies, structural details, foundation details, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and other engineering drawings.
Apply all relevant client, national, and state standards when applicable.
Perform calculations, reports, and designs on substation projects to support engineers.
Understand client standards and complete projects by performing simple to moderately complex tasks, exercising judgment in design criteria, evaluation, and design.
Collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines and work to identify and resolve potential design issues.
Contribute to a safe environment for substation personnel, contractors, and the public. Education, Skills, and Abilities Required
An Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), certification in CAD or 2 to 4 years of prior relevant experience in utility substation engineering. High School diploma/GED is required.
Understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission, and distribution) system.
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.
Self-motivated, ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, reliable, trustworthy, as well as technically competent.
Demonstrated time management skills.
Proven AutoCAD or MicroStation skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office based applications.
Ability to constructively manage multiple tasks.
Ability to travel up to 10%. Overnight stay may be required.

Physical Functions:Physical requirements involve performing general office activities. The role will also require the incumbent to sit for long periods of time.

Career Progression
The CAD Technician I is an entry level position within the substation engineering design group. Career progression may include advancement into higher CAD Technician positions within the substation engineering design group.
