Job Description Tooling Design Engineer: My client is looking for an experienced and innovative Tooling Design Engineer to lead cross-functional initiatives from concept development through to production.
This role is critical in designing and modeling foundry tooling—including patterns and core boxes—and improving existing product lines.
The ideal candidate will blend technical skill with creativity, ensuring cost-effective and manufacturable solutions.Key Responsibilities: Design and model foundry tooling such as patterns and core boxes using CAD software.
Collaborate with product development teams to finalize new product designs that align with manufacturing capabilities.
Create and manage detailed 3D CAD models (SolidWorks) and 2D drawings for manufacturing and maintenance.
Develop tooling fixtures and machining components based on sketches, renderings, or rough concepts.
Generate layouts and detailed drawings of complex assemblies and mechanical structures.
Contribute to building and maintaining pattern design data for existing and new products.
Troubleshoot and solve technical design issues with creativity and sound engineering principles.
Coordinate technical activities with internal departments and external vendors.
Evaluate the feasibility of new equipment installations or facility modifications based on technical and economic factors.
Apply current technologies and contribute to the development of new tooling methodologies.
Document lessons learned and integrate them into future tooling and product designs.
Participate in continuous improvement of design and production workflows across departments.Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or 5 + years of hands-on experience designing foundry tooling.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience with foundry tooling design.
Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Experience with 3D printing technologies (FDM & SLA) and 3D scanning.
Strong attention to detail with excellent troubleshooting skills.
Familiarity with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastic, and electrical components.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
Capable of identifying design risks and dependencies, and collaborating cross-functionally to mitigate them.Total compensation includes: salary $85-$95K with yearly discretionary bonus.
