Job Description

About the Company:

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Job:

We're looking for a Power Electronics Lead to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Engineering team. This person will be responsible for the architecture, design, and technical direction of our power conversion systems. You'll play a critical role in shaping how energy moves within and beyond our battery systems—from cell to grid.

We're seeking someone with deep technical experience and a track record of shipping high-reliability, high-voltage power systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who wants to own hard problems, work cross-functionally, and help build world-class energy storage products from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of high-voltage power conversion systems within Peak's energy storage platform—including bidirectional DC/DC, DC/AC inverters, and protection circuitry.

Define and maintain system-level electrical requirements for power stages, gate drives, control loops, safety interfaces, and EMI/EMC performance.

Select and integrate key components (e.g., IGBTs, SiC/GaN FETs, magnetics, busbars, filters) and collaborate closely with mechanical and thermal engineers to support packaging and cooling.

Own system-level testing and validation—both in-lab and in-field—including HV safety, transient behavior, thermal performance, and fault response.

Interface with firmware, controls, and systems teams to ensure robust hardware/software integration and safe system operation.

Support regulatory certification and compliance activities (e.g., UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEC 62109).

Act as a technical leader and mentor across the ESS team—setting high standards, reviewing designs, and driving toward first-principles, scalable solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

8+ years of experience designing power conversion systems for energy storage, renewables, automotive, or industrial applications.

Expertise in high-power and high-voltage (100kW+) converters and inverters—particularly in topologies, switching devices, protection, and control strategies.

Strong working knowledge of high-voltage system design, insulation coordination, and thermal management.

Skilled in simulation and design tools (e.g., SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium) and comfortable with lab testing in HV environments.

Deep understanding of compliance and grid standards including UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and IEC safety requirements.

Excellent communicator and collaborator, capable of aligning with cross-functional teams and driving high-quality decisions.

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with silicon carbide (SiC) module integration and design for manufacturability.

Exposure to full ESS architecture and system integration challenges (e.g., BMS, EMS, HVDC interfacing).

Prior work in startups or early-stage product environments.
